Description

The new headquarters for Libas, an e-commerce brand known for Indian ethnic wear, is a masterclass in blending cultural storytelling with modern workplace design. The façade, wrapped in carodust stone, casts a warm pink hue over the building, while sloped chajjas protect the reflective glass from both rain and pigeons. This glass reduces the heat gain and floods the interiors with natural light, fostering a bright, uplifting environment. The heart of the office is a striking double-height space, punctuated by patterned tile flooring, towering fins, and a bespoke lighting panel crafted from katran – leftover fabric pieces that subtly nod to the brand’s commitment to sustainability. This expansive zone acts as a connector between floors, grounding the office with a sense of openness and flow.

Inside, the material palette is a study in restraint and warmth. Grey tiles, soft pink-grey walls, and birch ply ceiling panels create a harmonious backdrop, allowing the workspace to feel both minimal and welcoming. Custom-designed metal and laminate workstations balance openness with privacy, integrating storage and personal space into the layout. Breakout meeting spaces along the edges offer a layered approach to seating, blending seamlessly with the primary workspace. These smaller, semi-open zones add variety to the office landscape, encouraging moments of collaboration while maintaining visual continuity.

II: Bollywood-inspired elements infuse the office with vibrancy, celebrating iconic fashion from different cinematic eras. Katran from Libas' collections brings these narratives to life, weaving a rich tapestry of culture, storytelling, and sustainable design.

III: The main workspace exudes warmth and simplicity, with a robust design that fosters productivity. Thoughtfully designed lighting enhances the ambiance, providing a comfortable and invigorating setting for focused work.

Katran, the leftover from the fabric intrinsic to Libas' design ethos, reappears as a key placemaking element across the office. Custom designed panels uning Katran forms the main brand signage at the ground floor reception, acting as a bold introduction to the space. It also lines the backdrop of discussion pockets, punctuates the ceiling in the double-height area, and seamlessly ties into the Bollywood-inspired narrative at the reception. These creative interventions not only emphasize sustainability but celebrate the very materials that shape Libas' collections, turning remnants into striking, functional art pieces that breathe identity into the workspace.

IV: The games room comes alive with a bold use of color, complemented by hand-glazed tiles that add texture and depth. This vibrant space brings an element of fun and energy to the workspace, balancing playfulness with practicality through its easy-to-maintain design.

Color emerges as a defining narrative in the design, strategically placed to punctuate the otherwise neutral palette. Meeting rooms take on vibrant hues, while the games room, cafeteria and the gym on the terrace with their bold colored ceiling and custom fixtures – becomes a playful retreat. Even the washrooms receive thoughtful attention, their walls adorned with mosaic tile typography that adds a dash of humour and vibrancy to the space. Throughout the office, subtle design gestures pay homage to the brand’s heritage and aspirations. The MD’s cabin transforms into a gallery of achievements, with awards displayed prominently, while a record player and lounger introduce moments of intimacy and pause. The designer’s workroom is practical yet creative, featuring shelving, cork boards, and glass panels for brainstorming and material studies. Bollywood-inspired story panels peppered across the office serve as visual anchors, reinforcing Libas’ passion for narrative, fashion, and cultural identity in an office that feels as vibrant and layered as the brand itself.
