Description
The Mulmul flagship store, nestled on Chhatarpur’s bustling 100 Feet Road in Delhi, is envisioned as an "oasis in the city"—a serene refuge amidst the urban hustle. This homegrown apparel brand seeks to create an immersive environment that blends architectural elegance with functional sophistication. The store's design reflects the brand’s rich textile heritage while embracing modern sensibilities. The use of arched openings to frame garment displays evokes a colonial aesthetic, adding timeless elegance, while fluted textures paired with a minimal black-and-white palette introduce refinement and depth. A striking paper leather ceiling installation with sculptural folds by Ankon Mitra takes centre stage in the double height store, honouring the brand’s textile legacy.

I: The piece de resistance is a water body in the center of the store that invites visitors to sit around it and soak in the brand’s varied offerings. A customer can have a coffee, private consultation with an in-house stylist or just sit and relax by themselves next to the water feature that is brimming with lotus flowers and the soothing sound of cascading water.

The layout is carefully segmented into distinct zones, each offering a unique experience for the customer. The custom-designed flooring pattern subtly demarcates the browsing and lounging areas, allowing the space to flow naturally while maintaining functional clarity. A bespoke cafe counter, crafted from mild steel, brass mesh, and curved glass, serves as both an aesthetic anchor and a functional hub, inviting customers to pause and interact with the brand. Suspended above the counter, is a fluted glass walkway that leads to the Director's office on the mezzanine, enhancing the connection between the brand’s leadership and its clientele. The design incorporates Vaastu principles, ensuring balance and harmony in every aspect of the space, from the orientation of mirrors to the overall spatial organization.

II & III: The lounging pocket is held together by a 34 feet long bespoke cafe counter with an integrated PoS. It houses a branded café that allows customers to pause, sit by the waterbody and enjoy a coffee while keeping them connected to the larger brand experience.
Grand 22-foot mirrors are strategically placed throughout the store to amplify the sense of space and luxury. These mirrors not only reflect the surrounding architecture but also frame the garment displays. They also allow customers to quickly pick and glimpse themselves with the garment. Below the mezzanine, ceiling-hung display units are used to maximize floor space, maintaining a sleek, uncluttered atmosphere despite the high product density. The central island, designed to mirror the flooring pattern, functions both as a garment folding station and as a cohesive design element, reinforcing the store's minimalist yet sophisticated aesthetic.

IV: The building façade with its bold arched fenestrations forms a local landmark, extending the brand’s spatial identity all the way to the street.

The exterior of the building stands out as a bold landmark on Chhatarpur's busy street, with geometric arches that elongate the facade. The sharp black-and-white color scheme flows seamlessly from the exterior into the interior, reinforcing the brand’s strong visual identity. Tropical plants and banana palms soften the modern lines of the building, offering a glimpse into the lush, tranquil space inside; inviting curiosity from passers-by. The brand’s logo, displayed on a charred timber fascia, ensures high visibility from a distance, while the overall architectural design serves as both a statement and a destination—drawing people into the world of Mulmul.
